Why Here? Why Now?

Well, it's finally done. I started working on this site either late last year, or four years ago, depending on how you're counting, and even if it's done late, it's done, and I'm happy with it. I've been frestrated for a long time with the "branding" of ourselves that corporate social media encourages us to do - zeroing in on one aspect of ourselves and presenting it as though that was all there was to us, to make ourselves an easier product to package and classify for The Algorithm. I wanted to create my own space online, one that was actually mine, the way we did it in Ye Olden Days.

I spent a good five or six years not putting anything I said or created online in any kind of permanent way, mostly because I couldn't stand the hostile environment that the Facebooks and Twitters of the world have created for their users. We've had a better alternative for the last thirty-two years - the Internet itself. Though I'm sure some people would like this to change, you can just, like, buy a domain name and set up a server and start posting stuff. It's not expensive. It takes a little more work, sure, but most things in life that are worth it do.

I'm thinking of this site as an experiment in being a whole person on the Internet. This isn't a place dedicated to my coding projects, or to my artwork, or any other one brand-able thing. It's dedicated to me, a non-marketable, self contradictory human being. I'm looking forward to showing that off.
